As many of of us have come to know, Black Women are the center of everything, from the entertainment we consume to the very cells in all of our bodies, Black Women are the beginning of it all and forces to be reckoned with. This blog is catered to the women in media who have paved the way as doors continue to open for more stories of Black and Brown women begin to be told. While Black and Brown women have become more visible in front of the camera, there is still a need for more of us behind the camera in different roles. The world is in need of more Black and brown film directors, producers, sports analysts, news writers, public relations agents, and so much more.
Black Madonna Media is here to explore those fields and share insight on how to create more spaces for Black and Brown women in those career fields. When we begin to control the narrative of our women then we can become unstoppable. It is imperative that we shape the future to reflect a better reality than the one to which we have become accustomed. It is time to break the status quo and the “Glass Ceiling”, it is our time to rise. The title of this blog post relates to the 1991 film Daughters of the Dust directed by Julie Dash and was the first feature film directed by a Black Woman to receive national theatrical distribution. This was a revolutionary film and has opened doors for many Black female directors. This blog hopes to do the same.
